What is The Smarter Balanced Assesment

" The Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (Smarter Balanced) or SBAC is a state-led consortium working to develop next-generation assessments that accurately measure student progress toward college- and career-readiness. Smarter Balanced is one of two multistate consortia awarded funding from the U.S. Department of Education in 2010 to develop an assessment system aligned to the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) by the 2014-15 school year."

Field Test

The SBAC will be administering a field test from March 18 to June 6 2014. This assessement is going to be used to ensure that the assessment can be used to generate valid, reliable and fair results for students. It will also help schools determine their level of preparedness for the full implementation of the first operational assessment in spring 2015.
